A. Donors

Donor Information: Name, email address, and postal address (if provided).
Donation Information: Donation amount, currency, time of donation, and transaction reference.
Donor Account Information (if the donor creates an account): Login credentials (managed securely by Clerk) and donation history.

B. Organizations

Account Information: Contact details, billing details, and login credentials (managed securely by Clerk).

C. Payments

We do not collect or store payment card details (e.g., card numbers, CVV, ACH). All payment information is collected and processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor.

2. How We Use Your Information

We process personal data to:

  • Enable and manage donations on your website.
  • Provide donors with receipts and transaction history.
  • Maintain secure donor portals for recurring donations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal obligations.
  • Support integrations you choose to enable (e.g., Mailchimp, Zapier).


We do not sell or rent personal data for financial gain.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We rely on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract: providing donation services to you and your donors.
  • Legitimate interests: maintaining a secure and functional software.
  • Consent: sharing donor data with third-party services (e.g., Mailchimp, Zapier) only when explicitly enabled.

4. Data Sharing with Third Parties

We only share data when necessary for the operation of SquareDonations:

  • Stripe (payments): Handles all payment transactions. PCI DSS Level 1 compliant.
  • Clerk (authentication): Provides secure user management and login. SOC 2 Type II certified.
  • AWS (hosting): Hosts our servers in London, UK, with enterprise-grade security.
  • Mailchimp (optional): For donor email marketing if you enable it.
  • Zapier (optional): For workflow automation if you enable it.


Each third party is governed by its own privacy policy.

5. Data Security

We use technical and organizational measures to protect data, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest.
  • Role-based access control for internal staff.
  • Continuous monitoring of system vulnerabilities.
  • Reliance on enterprise-grade providers (Stripe, Clerk, AWS).

6. Data Retention and Deletion

  • We retain donor and organization data while your account remains active or as required by law.
  • Upon account termination, donor data is permanently deleted within 30 days unless retention is legally required.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to:

We store donor data on AWS servers in the United Kingdom (London).
If data is transferred outside your jurisdiction (e.g., to the United States via Stripe), we rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) to ensure compliance.

9. “Do Not Track” Signals

SquareDonations does not respond to “Do Not Track” signals, as no consistent industry standard exists.

10. Children’s Privacy

SquareDonations is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If discovered, such data will be deleted promptly.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
